Take the Sharjah Girl Guides ‘Best Humanitarian Action’ challenge
In keeping with the spirit of a golden period in human history as the world witnesses a surge in heroic acts of thousands worldwide who are risking their lives to save others, and in preparation for the holiest month on the Islamic calendar, Sharjah Girl Guides (SGG), has announced its ‘Best Humanitarian Action’ contest for young girls, offering them a unique opportunity to volunteer and cultivate a true spirit of community service.
Open to all Guides and Senior Guides until May 5, the contest is part of SGG’s ‘Spread happiness’ initiative. Those who wish to participate, must submit their entries – an original idea – to info@uaegg.ae in PDF format, with ‘Best Humanitarian Project’ and the participant’s full name inscribed in the subject line.
Applicants need to submit an idea for a humanitarian project that is original and targets a specific segment of society. It should be feasible to be implemented within the UAE, and the applicant should commit to implementing it. The submission must contain the following information: The participant’s full name, age, phone number and email id; a project brief and its goals; the project’s target group; location; and the proposed date of execution and estimated completion timelines.
The five best projects from among the entries will be announced on 5th May, 2020, and on the 19th day of Ramadan – which is also observed as Zayed Humanitarian Day (12th May, 2020), will announce the winner of the best project on SGG’s Instagram platform.
The project with the highest number of votes will be declared the winner. The winner will receive a certificate of appreciation with a cash prize and a ‘Spread Happiness’ badge. The winner will be contacted to implement the project under the supervision of the SGG team in cooperation with the relevant entities. SGG will promote the project through media coverage and participation in local competitions.
Shaikha Abdelaziz Al Shamsi, Manager of SGG, said: “The competition is part of our ongoing efforts to encourage our members to champion humanitarian causes and serve their communities, especially during these extraordinary circumstances caused by the novel coronavirus pandemic. It also serves as a reminder to the community about the roles and duties of the Girl Guides movement.”
