A group of 20 members of the Sharjah Girl Guides (SGG) spent their weekend learning that obesity is a serious health issue, not just a cosmetic consideration. SGG organized a fun-filled day of learning for them at Dubai’s Mushrif Park to mark Anti-Obesity Day (AOD), which is observed in various parts of the world on November 26.
The Guides (12 – 15 years) listened to an informative lecture lately on how obesity is the root cause of several serious health problems such as heart attacks, cancer, infertility, diabetes and sleep apnea. They also learned about the importance of adopting a healthy diet and lifestyle to keep these chronic diseases at bay. The day also featured a bunch of fun activities including learning simple exercises and leadership practices they can easily incorporate into their daily routine.
Anti-Obesity Day is observed in various parts of the world on November 26, with several healthcare organizations marking the day with activities to highlight how obesity is a public health hazard.
