Sharjah Girl Guides (SGG) members recently took part in an ‘adventure workshop’, delivered by Dubai-based adventure superstore Adventure HQ, where they learned essential skills needed to survive – and thrive – in the great outdoors.
The event sought to strengthen the girls’ leadership skills, while teaching basic survival and camping know-how, and hone their general teambuilding skills ahead of Winter Camp, taking place from December 16 to 18 (Brownies) and December 20 to 22 (Guides).
The Adventure HQ team briefed the teams about the essentials needed for a camping expedition and shared survival tips in case of an emergency, along with general advice on how to stay safe when living outdoors.
The Adventure HQ team also explained the many benefits of camping, exploring and appreciating the beautiful landscape and nature the UAE has to offer.
During a Q&A session, advice on how to choose the best camping equipment and shopping for the best deals was also shared.
Shaikha Al Shamsi, Manager of SGG, said “The Sharjah Guides is interested in providing girls with knowledge and culture to be able to face new experiences with confidence and without fear. This type of workshop prepares them to anticipate challenges, prepare for any outdoor adventure, and during camping as well as expand their knowledge about nature, environmental resources and sustainability behaviors that enable them to contribute to the conservation of natural resources.
Established in Sharjah in 1973, the Guiding movement soon spread to all seven emirates in the UAE, resulting in the formation of the Girl Guides Association of the UAE in 1979. Operating under the patronage of Her Highness Sheikha Jawaher bint Mohammed Al Qasimi, Wife of the Ruler of Sharjah and Chairperson of the Supreme Council for Family Affairs, SGG aims to inspire and nurture future generations to become progressive global citizens by providing a platform to develop to their full potential.
