Sharjah Girl Guides (SGG) has announced the launch of its first virtual summer camp for its cadre of Brownies, Guides, and Senior Guides to be held over a five-day period in July. Organised over the Zoom video conferencing platform, the camp seeks to inculcate vital life skills in members while also motivating them to undertake productive activities during their free time over the summer.
Three sets of programmes have been scheduled for the participants. Guides (12-15 years) and senior guides (15–18 years) will commence their activities from July 25–29 while Brownies (7–11 years) will undertake the camp from July 19–23.
Brownies program
The arts-based workshop programme scheduled for Brownies aims to enhance the creative skills of the young girls in diverse fields such as designing photography backdrops and crafting new objects with recyclable household items and materials. Girls will also be instructed in essential photography lighting techniques and will learn how to take professional photos with their smartphones. The five-day session will begin at 12pm every day.
Hosted by Emirati artist Maitha Hamdan, the series of workshops developed for Brownies includes ‘Make your own colours filters’, ‘create your own customized gift wraps, ‘create your own photography background with materials’, ‘Product photography’, and ‘sketch with many ways to paint’.
Guides program
By showcasing inspiring stories of working women in public and private sectors and highlighting their roles in building a brighter future for their communities, SGG’s Guides will learn to cultivate leadership, entrepreneurship and team building skills at the virtual summer camp.
Held from 9:30 am to 1:00 pm over five days, the programme will highlight the essential characteristics of a good leader and enable the young guides to hone their leadership skills through exercises in problem solving, negotiation and communication to build up their self-confidence. The concluding day of the camp will see the participants use these concepts to generate a business idea or establish a start-up.
Senior guides grogram
The Senior Guides at SGG will be engaged in the basics of project management and planning through a series of workshops and fun, practical activities hosted every day during July 25-29 from 9.30am to 1pm.
The programme will introduce young women to successful start-up business models and success stories of inspiring entrepreneurs. Lean start-up methodology and design thinking, leadership skills, business management and team management are some of the key concepts that will be introduced through this programme. In a practical session, participants will have to apply what they have learnt to create new business ideas or set the base for their own start-ups.
