The Sharjah Girls Guide recently concluded the distribution of ‘Mair Ramadan’ packages to 150 needy families in the UAE. Twenty brownies and guides gave away food packets that included basic ingredients like rice, tea, sugar, cooking oil, flour and salt.
The initiative is aimed at enhancing humanitarian work and embracing the true spirit of giving, especially during the holy month of Ramadan.
The ‘Mair Ramadan’ drive was organised in cooperation with the Sharjah Police, Sharjah Charity International, Ministry of Community Development, Local Cookies and Paper Fig, to help the less privileged.
Shaikha Abdelaziz Al Shamsi, Manager of SGG, said: “Every year during Ramadan, we involve SGG members in community activities that are aimed at helping needy families. These activities also cultivate and enhance the spirit of community service, encouraging the youth to volunteer for society’s benefit. This will hold them up as role models for their peers, while furthering the values embedded in Emirati culture – kindness, generosity, affability and tolerance – which are also the main beliefs practiced in our religion.”
